The general rule of thumb is that you should have a minimum of one portable restroom for every 50 guests. However, this is just a rough estimate, and you’re always better off erring on the side of caution and renting more than you may need so you can be certain you’ll have enough. If you’re having a larger event with more than 50 guests, we’d always recommend renting one or two more than you think you really need just to be safe.
You may also want to consider having separate facilities for men and women, which could increase the total number you need. Whether you decide to have separate restrooms or not, it’s always a good idea to rent one or two more restrooms than you think you need if around 50% or more of your guests are female.
If you’re renting portable restrooms for a construction or work site, you’ll need to consider how many people will be using them per day on average. You also need to consider how often the company you rent them from cleans and pumps them out so that you don’t end up with all of the restrooms filling up too quickly. One is usually sufficient for smaller jobs where only a few people will be using it, but larger jobs will definitely require at least a few.
Other Factors to Consider When Calculating How Many Portable Restrooms You Need
While just calculating based on the number of guests is sometimes sufficient, there are other factors you should think about that can increase how many portable restrooms you may need. Another extremely important factor to think about is whether alcohol will be served at the event and, if so, how many guests you think will be drinking and how much they’ll drink. Most people need to urinate around 40% more often when drinking alcohol. This means you may need to nearly double the amount of portable restrooms that you’d normally need if alcohol is being served. If you have a long event where people will be drinking, you’ll need to rent even more.
Most portable restrooms have a hand sanitizer dispenser inside them so that people can sanitize their hands after going. While hand sanitizer is useful when it is the only option, most people still prefer being able to wash their hands with soap and water. This is why you should definitely consider also renting portable handwashing stations, especially for nicer events like weddings or any event where food will be served. This means that you won’t need to rent as many handwashing stations as you do restrooms, but you should still make sure that you have a minimum of one sink per restroom.
